In reaction to the survey data that showed how much Chicago youth worry about violence the Free Spirit Media youth wanted to find out what preventative measures are taking place and what the community’s reaction is to the amount of crime and violence in the grand crossing community. The youth felt that the National Night Out Against Crime and Violence 2010 was the perfect location to gather information for their news report. The community event was held in a parking lot across the street from the Gary Comer Youth Center. They were able to interview both community members and 3rd district police officials.
